One of the most important tools a company has in it’s marketing arsenal is a strong, effective logo. It is essentially the face of your business or organization and the first chance to make an impression on your potential clients or customers. It not only tells someone who you are but what you are. Therefore, any business or organization thinking about creating a logo should know the building blocks that go into making an effective brand.

1. The first thing to establish is that your logo has an immediate impact on the consumer. Your logo should grab the viewers attention and be memorable. Be sure to create a visual that will become iconic and instantly recognizable. The easiest way to achieve this is through evaluating your business and creating a mark that best represents who you are.

2. Be sure that the logo you are creating is unique and stands out from your competition. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is having your logo remind your consumer of your competitor. A great logo design will stand out and be stamped in your customers mind, making it unmistakable in a lineup.

3. A pitfall that many companies fall into is that they over complicate the visual aspect of their logo. A logo doesn’t have to be complex to be effective. Too much information crammed into a small space can make your brand confusing. It is important to keep your logo clean, concise, and to the point. The simpler the logo, the easier it is for the consumer to digest it and recall it.

4. The most important factor to consider in the design of a logo is the meaning behind it. Allow the message behind your logo to be as simple and as to the point as the design. The message should be unique to you and communicate who you are, what you are, and your mission. Remember that even the most monotone simple design can hold a multitude of meaning.

All of these things listed above shouldn’t be considered to be the end all be all of what to factor in when creating a logo, but should be used as a starting point to critically think before starting the design process. If you’re considering a logo design or redesign these points should all be taken into consideration with both you and your designer of choice.
