Historic Brand Gets Modern Redesign and Future-Ready Technology

www.ColumbiaRestaurant.com

Founded in 1905, the Columbia restaurant is Florida’s oldest restaurant and the largest Spanish restaurant in the world.  With the original location in Tampa’s Ybor City historic district, there are seven locations throughout Florida, including cafe service at Tampa International Airport and the Tampa Bay History Center.  The Columbia restaurant group is proud to boast their historic, award winning wine list and has received recognition as “one of America’s top 10 salads (the 1905 salad).” The epicurean destination is annually recognized for excellence in customer service and commitment to the community.

Challenge

The Columbia Restaurant partnered with Bayshore Solutions to re-engineer their new website to replace a site that was over a decade old and no longer able to deliver web functionality required in the current competitive dining destinations marketplace. The Columbia needed to expand into online product sales with a website equipped to offer this functionality seamlessly and in alignment with the restaurants’ legacy of customer service excellence.

Solution

A fully responsive website was designed to ensure that customers on the go can easily access, explore and enjoy the website from any device.  Honoring the Columbia’s heritage, the website aesthetics combine Cuban/Spanish design elements with a color palette that accents the Columbia’s historic, established logo, and adds complementary colors to add “flavor” to the composition.

To accommodate the Columbia’s distinct business needs, Bayshore Solutions integrated the two content management system (CMS) platforms to specifically address the restaurant website’s use and administration requirements,

With analysis of the Columbia’s current and foreseeable inventory, it was determined that Shopify is the shopping cart best positioned to serve their eCommerce needs.  Shopify’s reporting and order metrics is robust enough to satisfy the restaurant group’s operational needs, and the simplicity of the user interface/user experience (UI/UX) for adding and editing products is easy to understand for their website administrators’ ongoing use.

Kentico is the chosen CMS for the content management of the areas of the website outside of the eCommerce store.  The Columbia Restaurant has multiple locations that display distinct menus and wine lists at different times, so the restaurant needed the ability to autonomously manage each location’s website administration.  Kentico best delivers this functionality with a seamless UI and coordinated system.

Bayshore Solutions created and integrated an authentic, enticing design with complex technical functionality to deliver a website experience that delivers the premium quality and service excellence expected with the Columbia brand.

“We are extremely proud of the website created for the Columbia Restaurant,” said Kevin Hourigan, President and CEO of Bayshore Solutions. “This work exemplifies the successful blending of art and science that delivers this premier Florida brand with a strong online presence and the functionality to energize their continued growth.”
